Fort Bend Family Promise is one of 115 Interfaith Hospitality Networks that provide help and hope for homeless families. Founded in New Jersey in 1986, IHN programs are now in 33 states across the country, with more than 140,000 volunteers contributing their gifts of time and talent through 4000 congregations.
The program unites communities of faith in a collaborative effort to assist homeless families. Eight to thirteen "host" congregations provide accommodations and meals for three to five families (up to 14 people), for one week every three to four months on a rotating schedule.
First Presbyterian is currently one of 10 congregations of various denominations in the Fort Bend program acting as a Host Congregation. A host congregation furnishes sleeping accommodations and meals for the families for one week, 4 times a year.

East Fort Bend Human Needs Ministry: First Presbyterian is one of the charter churches supporting this mission. The ministry has a food pantry where some of our members work several days a week helping get food ready for those that are in need. We also collect donated food and money for the pantry. Please save your paper grocery bags and give them to the Pantry to place food in. The ministry also has a Tri Cities Resale Shop where donated used clothing and furniture are sold. The proceeds go to support the ministry. Volunteers save the Ministry thousands of dollars worth of labor and professional services each week. There are a variety of jobs to be done in serving our clients, and we'd love to welcome you to our team!

What is Stephen Ministry? It is a ministry in which people who have been trained in care giving skills will sit down, listen, and talk to you if you have experienced a crisis or change in your life. A Stephen Minister will pray, encourage, support, and walk beside you during your time of trial. Men listen to men and women listen to other women. Confidentiality is kept about who is seeing a Stephen Minister and what is spoken.
Who may need a Stephen Minister? It can be those who are ill or hospitalized, have a chronic illness, have an ill family member, have family challenges, are going through a transition or move, are lonely, have suffered a death of a family member or had a serious loss, Are going through a divorce, have a disability or disabled family member, have a terminal illness, lost a job, have faith issues or going through any other major change.
Who are Stephen Ministers? The are lay people who have received 50 hours of training in care giving skills. A Stephen Minister visits their care receiver on a regular basis and listens to their concerns. They are committed to confidentiality. A Stephen Minister is NOT a counselor, therapist, problem solver, or casual visitor.
